Porto Femme Festival, neste mês de março, promove para além de sua sessão habitual na última quarta-feira do mês, dois encontros como parte do programa paralelo da exposição RIVVA, patente na sala de exposições e na oficina. Além das curtas, haverá momento para conversa com público e convidados. Nova curtas, numa curadoria em que os corpos falam, gritam, calam. Corpos - Porto.

Sinopse | Synopsis

Muitas meninas crescem ensinadas a serem doces, bonitas e a “brilhar”. A maioria dos rapazes é recompensada por serem espertos, dominantes e fortes. Das mulheres é esperado que se apresentem numa forma que esteja de acordo com certos papéis sexuais estereotipados. São muito mais severamente escrutinadas pela sua aparência do que os seus homólogos masculinos e a objetivação das mulheres torna-as mais vulneráveis à descriminação e agressão na nossa sociedade dominada por homens. É uma luta contínua para que as mulheres descubram a sua força e se libertem dos estereótipos a que foram sujeitas, o que evita que vivam sem medo, pelas mesmas regras e o mesmo acesso a oportunidades que os homens. A palavra alemã “Schein” significa brilho ou luz, mas também faz-de-conta, fingimento ou ilusão.

Many girls grow up being taught to be sweet, to look pretty and “to shine”. Most boys are being rewarded for being smart, dominant and strong. Women are expected to present themselves in a way that conforms to certain gender role stereotypes. They are much more harshly scrutinized for their appearance than their male counterparts and the objectification of women makes them vulnerable to discrimination and aggression in our male dominated society. It is a continued struggle for women to discover their strength and to break free from the stereotypes they’ve been subjected to, which have prevented them to live fearlessly, by the same rules and with the same access to opportunity as men. The German word “Schein” means “shine”, “glow” or “light”, as well as “make- believe”, “pretense” or “illusion”.

Biografia | Biography

Ali Aschman é uma artista visual e animadora da África do Sul e dos Estados Unidos, atualmente sediada em Londres. Faz um trabalho narrativo experimental na forma de desenhos, esculturas e animações. Exibe regularmente em galerias nos EUA e as suas curtas-metragens foram exibidas em festivais de cinema pelo mundo fora. Tem um BA da Universidade da Cidade do Cabo, um MFA da Escola do Instituto de Arte de Chicago, e atualmente está a tirar um mestrado em Animação no Royal College of Art.

Ali Aschman is a visual artist and animator from South Africa and the United States, currently based in London. She makes experimental narrative work in the form of drawings, sculptures and animations. She exhibits regularly in galleries in the US and her short films have screened at film festivals around the world. She has a BA from the University of Cape Town, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is currently studying for an MA in Animation at the Royal College of Art.

Já faz muito tempo. Esquecido e amargo, o corpo de Catarina abandona a cabeça, interrompendo uma dança de afeto entre corpo e mente. Escapando do seu parceiro de vida, o físico decide entrar numa dimensão de corpos sem cabeça, a Corporealidade. No entanto, a mente teimosa não descansa. Precisamente quando perdemos os nossos queridos membros é quando os valorizamos mais.

It’s been too long. Forgotten and bitter, Catarina’s body abandons her head, interrupting a dance of affection between body and mind.  Escaping from her life partner, the physique decides to enter a dimension of headless bodies, the Corporealitis. However, a stubborn mind doesn’t rest. Precisely when we lose our dearest members is when we most value them.

Beatriz Bagulho é uma ilustradora portuguesa e estuda animação na Universidade do Oeste da Inglaterra.

"O que você estaria disposto a fazer para eles amarem você?" LOVE ME, FEAR ME é uma metáfora de dança sobre os papéis que desempenhamos e as formas que assumimos, sobre os estágios que escolhemos, o público que tentamos impressionar e o preço da aceitação.

"What would you be willing to do for them to love you? " LOVE ME, FEAR ME is a dance metaphor about the roles we play and the shapes we take, about the stages we chose, the audience we try to impress and the price of acceptance.

Biografia | Biography

Veronica nasceu numa pequena cidade no meio da Transilvânia (Romênia) e mora atualmente em Berlim, Alemanha. Depois de obter um diploma em Belas Artes (2003), começou um processo de auto-treinamento de animadora enquanto fazia bandas desenhadas e ilustrações. Em 2017, formou-se na Filmuniversity Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF com um BA em Animação.

Veronica was born in a small town in the middle of Transylvania (Romania) and is currently living in Berlin, Germany. After obtaining a degree in Fine Arts (2003), she began a self-training process to become an animator alongside doing comics and illustration. In 2017 she graduated the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF with a BA in Animation.

O filme FEMINAM, Latin for woman é um trabalho visual autônomo de Marijke De Belie no qual a artista faz várias representações de mulheres ao longo dos séculos. Não tem uma enumeração cronológica científica de todos os ícones femininos, mas mais uma inundação de imagens como a que experimentamos em nosso sono REM. Para isso, ela usa uma técnica de animação direta. Com um lápis de aquarela preto em um painel branco de madeira registra o próprio processo de desenho, em um estilo de desenho autêntico e descomplicado.

The movie FEMINAM, Latin for woman is an autonomous visual work by Marijke De Belie in which the artist plays with representations of women throughout the centuries.

Still it has not become a scientifical chronological enumeration of all female icons but more a flood of images like the one we experience in our REM sleep. For this she uses a direct animation technique. With a black aquarel pencil on a white panel of wood she registers the drawing process itself, in an authentic and uncomplicated drawing style.

O universo é a totalidade do espaço, do tempo e de toda a matéria e energia que nele existe. Estamos todos nele. É tudo uma questão de amor sem fronteiras! Corpo e mente fundem-se um no outro e perdem-se no espaço e no tempo! A origem não importa. É sobre a vida e o amor no aqui e agora.

The universe is the totality of space, time, and all matter and energy in it. We are all in it. It's all about love without any borders! Body and mind merge into each other and lose themselves in space and time! Origin does not matter. It's about life and love in the here and now - to be.

Biofilmografia / Biofilmography

O que começou com a fotografia e a filmagem durante os anos de escola já é paixão e profissão. Carolin nasceu em 1987, na parte norte da Alemanha. Depois de terminar a aprendizagem como assistente farmacêutica, Carolin mudou-se para o Canadá para fazer as suas primeiras experiências na Indústria Cinematográfica com a produção de Smallville e o futuro filme Helen. Voltando após 1 ano e meio, mudou-se para Hamburgo e estudou Cinematografia. Durante esse tempo, trabalhou como assistente de câmara e DOP para curtas-metragens, documentários e longas-metragens.

What started with photography and filming during school years is passion and profession by now. Carolin was born in 1987 in the North Part of Germany. After finishing apprenticeship as a pharmaceutical assistant Carolin moved to Canada to make her first experiences in the Film Industry with the production of Smallville and the Future Film Helen. Coming back after 1 1/2 Year, she moved to Hamburg and studied Cinematography. During that time she worked as an camera assistant, and DOP for Short Films, Documentaries and Feature Films.

Sinopse | Synopsis

O curta-metragem híbrido Sympoietic Bodies explora a ruptura das fronteiras entre o corpo humano e seu entorno social e físico. O curta-metragem surge do interesse em combinar uma compreensão filosófica de nossos corpos e sua interação com outros seres dentro do ambiente construído, com a exploração de novas possibilidades tecnológicas no contexto do cinema experimental e de animação. Tudo o que é mostrado no filme vem do mundo físico e foi posteriormente manipulado em software de animação. Cada tecnologia diferente foi usada com o propósito de explorar um ponto de vista diferente do mundo que habitamos. A animação é aqui usada como uma ferramenta sociopolítica, onde o uso híbrido de animações geradas por computador e filmagens digitais visa fornecer diferentes perspectivas sobre nós mesmos e nosso ambiente, enquanto cria uma interação contínua entre um ponto de vista antropocêntrico e pós-antropocêntrico. Nesse sentido, o filme experimenta um cenário pós-antropocêntrico relacionado a uma sociedade atual, onde o corpo humano se descentraliza e se desconstrói em seu todo. A trama mostra um vislumbre da vida de “C”, habitante de uma configuração urbana, e detalhes de sua interação e percepção no ambiente urbano.

The hybrid short film Sympoietic Bodies explores the disruption of the boundaries between human body and its social and physical surroundings. The short film arises from the interest in combining a philosophical understanding of our bodies and their interaction with other beings in and within the constructed environment, with the exploration of new technological possibilities in the experimental and animation film context. Everything which is shown in the film comes from the physical world and has been further manipulated in animation software. Each different technology has been used with the purpose of exploring a different point of view of the world we inhabit. Animation is here used as a sociopolitical tool, where the hybrid use of computer-generated animations and digital shootings aim to provide different perspectives on ourselves and our environment, while creating a continuous interplay between an anthropocentric and a post-anthropocentric point of view. In this sense, the film experiments a postanthropocentric scenario related to a nowadays society, where the human body gets decentered and deconstructed in its whole. The plot shows glimpse of the life of “C”, inhabitant of an urban configuration, and details of her interaction and perception within the urban environment.

Flavia Mazzanti é uma artista midiática, arquiteta e pesquisadora ítalo-brasileira que mora em Viena, Áustria. Graduou-se com distinção na Academia de Belas Artes de Viena, recebendo o Prêmio Gustav Peichl e o Würdigungspreis pelo trabalho artístico para seu projeto de tese de mestrado. O trabalho de Flavia se concentra nas relações pós-antropocêntricas entre corpos, ambientes e sociedades, que vão desde teorias filosóficas-arquitetônicas até arte de mídia e cinema experimental. Ela foi recentemente premiada com o Programa Artista Residente "Pixel, Bytes + Film" para artes de mídia da ORF III - Kultur und Information (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) e BMKÖS (o Ministério Federal de Artes, Cultura, Serviço Civil e Esporte) para o curta-metragem híbrido Sympoietic Bodies (2020). Seu trabalho já foi exibido e premiado em festivais na Europa, Oceania, América do Norte e América do Sul.

Flavia Mazzanti is an Italian Brazilian media artist, architect and researcher based in Vienna, Austria. She graduated with distinction at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, receiving the Gustav Peichl Award and the Würdigungspreis for artistic work for her master thesis project. Flavia’s work focuses on post- anthropocentric relationships between bodies, environments and societies, ranging from architectural- philosophical theories to media art and experimental filmmaking. She was recently awarded with the Artist- in-Residence Program “Pixel, Bytes + Film” for media arts from ORF III - Kultur und Information (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) and BMKÖS (the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport) for her hybrid short film Sympoietic Bodies (2020). Her work has been screened and awarded at festivals in Europe, Oceania, North and South America.

Biografia / Biography

Emilie Praneuf nasceu na França em 1984 e mora em Bruxelas desde 2006. Ela faz parte do coletivo artístico Collectif Wow! Criou e atuou em teatro, cinema e rádio. Emilie também tem feito experiências com direção e fotografia. Ela está interessada em processos de criação ou em como criar tendo como base a intimidade. Ela é uma desenhista autodidata há muitos anos. Ela descobriu a animação com Babines, junto com o videomaker e motion designer Ychaï Gassenbauer, também estudante de musicologia, teatro e vídeo, e com o diretor de criações sonoras/musicais Sebastien SCHMITZ, também professor de linguagem radiofônica no IHECS.

Emilie Praneuf was born in France in 1984 and has been living in Brussels since 2006. She is a part of Brussels-based artistic collective Collectif Wow! She has created and acted in theatre, cinema and radio. Emilie has also been experimenting with directing and photography. She is interested in creation processes or how to create with intimacy as a basis. She has been a self-taught drawer for many years. She discovered animation with Babines, along with video maker and motion designer Ychaï Gassenbauer, also a student in musicology, theatre and video, and sonorous/musical creations director Sebastien SCHMITZ, also teacher in radiophonic language at IHECS.
